WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki is pronounced ray-key. It is an ancient Japanese practice that uses Universal Life Energy.
In the 19th century, Dr. Mikao Usui discovered a way of channeling energy and created the Usui System of
Natural Healing which is better known as Reiki today.
Reiki understands the cause of problems and what healing is necessary. Reiki energy has a wisdom of its
own, healing and balancing any level of being: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. It is a gentle, non-
invasive method of healing that provides balance. There is no belief system attached to Reiki, anyone can
receive a Reiki treatment. The only requirement is the desire to be healed.
Healing is not the same thing as curing. Illness is usually a message from our body that something is not right
in our lives. Is there something we need to learn or change? Are we on our path? Do we need to forgive
someone? Are we holding grudges or resentments?
If we want the healing to be permanent, we must take responsibility in fixing the cause. Reiki can help with
this by allowing us to approach changes in a calm and relaxed way. Reiki helps us to let go of negative
thoughts and attitudes. It can bring about greater self-awareness, a capacity to lover ourselves and others,
and it can connect us with the Divine.

The practitioner meditates with the intent that healing occur which causes the energy to begin flowing,
